For the first time here in Utah we can buy turkey tags over the counter! I am so excited! But I dont know a thing about turkey hunting, all I know is you shoot the boy turkeys (toms)
Sooo where do I start? I would appreciate some advice. I will need a call wont I? What is the best call for a 20$ budget?
I would appreciate any sort of advice
Thanks

These guys make good calls and they're not that expensive. I personally have the sassafrass call and it was pulling gobbles all morning (maiden voyage was today ) You can also Try lynch and Knight and hale.
You'll also want some decoys and a vest, and maybe even a blind. It'lll all depend. PM me gen and let me know what you're looking to do with your Utah Thunderchickens!!!
I am going out for opening day up here in the morning. I have only hunted a couple of times late in the season. I am hunting archery style because I love the challange of the hunt. I have permission to hunt an old cornfield from a cattle farmer so hopefully I can get some results to share.. I use a quakerboy box caller..
This was my first time hunting Turkey and the two calls I found to help me be succesful cost a total of 35 bucks. A 3 pack of Primos mouth calls which I learned how to use after a weeks practice the 3 reed being my favorite and most productive. A Hunter Specialties LIL' Deuce Slate call with Carbon Striker, very easy to use also. At least one Hen Decoy 2 if possible placed were the wind can animate them located 12 to 20 yards away has worked well for me. And all my success came at between 2 and 5 in the evening in areas I had scouted the birds ahead of time. I never used a blind only the heavy cover close to where the birds could strut toward my decoys. I had no success in the rain only on sunny days later in the day but that will vary in different areas I'm sure. Be willing to take a nice Jake for your first time out, I did and was glad to get him in my first season, see Album. I used these two calls to call in 3 birds 2 of which I had a shot at and one for a first time hunter which she nailed after a 1/2 an hour wait it was 22lbs-10" beard-3/4 spurs a nice Turkey for her first bird. Patience is your best virtue hunting these awesome birds. Good Hunting!
