Turkey Hunting Whether it's spring or fall doesn't matter to this bunch. Great tips on calling, bustin flocks, using blinds and more.

Default Great week of hunting

A buddy and me always do a week of turkey hunting throughout the state of VA and this year was our best so far. We were able to pull to doubles on mature toms on consecutive days and almost was able to do it for a third day in a row. A couple of tree branches prevented us from doing so. Final tally was 5 birds for the week. I am tagged out now for the season so I will be just calling for friends. I have included pics of the birds. The birds on the log was our first double shot at 11:15am. The birds in the green field was our second double shot at 7:15am. The single bird with me was my third bird in three days and was shot at 9:35am. All of these birds were shot in SouthWest VA in Wythe, Montgomery, and Pulaski counties.

On the first double both birds had 9.5-10" beards with 3/4-1" spurs and weighed roughly 18-20 lbs. On the second double the biggest birds, beards were 10-10.5" with 1-1.5" spurs and weighed roughly 22-24 lbs. The final bird had a 10.5" beard, 3/4-1" spurs, and also weighed 18-20 lbs. Not exact on the lbs because our scale seemed a little off. We would weigh them a couple of times with different weights but that seemed to be the weights we they were in.

Good luck to everyone the rest of the season.

Jim

I am glad someone else feels Sunday is a bad day for me to hunt and this is why I can't hunt on Sundays.

Sweet deal man! Three birds in three days in three different counties! That is pretty awesome. Had you scouted each location, or hunted them before? Public land?

All of the places were private land. One of them is a farm that we have a lease on so we knew the birds were there. In fact a friend of ours shot a jake from from the same tree two days earlier. Another is my buddy cousin's place which we have hunted and harvested birds before too. The final place in Wythe was at his cousin's lease which he was able to get us on for a day because no one else turkey hunts there.
