Turkey Hunting Whether it's spring or fall doesn't matter to this bunch. Great tips on calling, bustin flocks, using blinds and more.

Default Textbook hunt this morn

Left the house this morn at 6:03 AM, dropped my daughter off next door at grandma's to catch the schoolbus. drove up behind the house to the top of the field.
As I was putting on my lightweight camo coveralls, one lit up 300 yards away. got dressed, donned headnet and vest, walked 100 yards and climbed up on the bank, 2 minutes later I heard him fly down, I gave a series of 3-4 soft yelps, he gobbled 400 yards away, waited 5 min. gave another series, he gobbled at 250 yards, one more series and 2 clucks, put the call down and got ready, 5 minutes later I heard him walking down over the side of the ridge. I then switched the valmet 412 over on the shotgun side, 2 minutes later he walked into an opening at 30 yards where his motor functions abrubtly ended from a facefull of 6's

He was an 18# 2 yo with a 7" beard and 3/4" spurs, one of the fun ones! was back home around 6:30 and went to work

Congrats on a great hunt! A couple of years ago I took guy on his first turkey hunt. We had one of those textbook hunts his first time out. I think he's been ruined forever. I told him 10 times it doesn't usually happen like this.

There's a lesson to be learned from this. Always wait til 10-10:30 to shoot your bird so you don't have to go to work til the afternoon...... Congrats, bet the glow will last for days!
