Turkey Hunting Whether it's spring or fall doesn't matter to this bunch. Great tips on calling, bustin flocks, using blinds and more.

Default Whats your opinion?

When walking in the early morning turkey hunting do you use a flashlight or no? I do use one but i am worried it may scare the birds if they see it, but i feel if i dont use it i will make too much noise and snap too many branches.

Would a red light affect the birds or do they not see it?

I have amazing night vision, because I am young. I don't need to use a flashlight yet...

I don't use one. Unlike deer, turkey can see colors like red and green. If it's too dark for me to see where I'm going, I'll wait a bit until it gets light enough for me to see to continue. Nothing says "people coming!" like a flashlight.

I do not use a flash light and where I hunt there are a lot of fields so that is where I hunt. I prefer to stay out of the woods for fear of making noise and noot being able to see where I am going, although my night vision is pretty good. I would suggest sticking to trails as best as you can when walking in while it's still dark if you're forced to hunt the woods. I'd also recommend walking in a little earlier so that things can quiet down moore before it starts to get light out. Remember that even deer, coyotes, raccoons, etc. make noise and occasionally break a stick or two when walking. In the dark it's very hard for a Turkey to see you when he's above you in the roost. I've set up very very close to roosted birds to have them drop right into my setup without ever knowing I was there.

I have been using one of these lights for years and it does not affect your night vision. And does not spook the animals, turkeys included.
