It doesn't take much at all to throw you off a foot or better at 40 yards.
The 535s I have experience with (take this as you will cause it has been about 3 total) have all shot 3" shells better than 3.5"s. Can't tell you why... but they do. And they cost a bit less and don't kick quite as much.
Definately find the densest part of the pattern not just the center of the target... that will tell you more of what the set up is really capable of.
