Turkey Hunting Whether it's spring or fall doesn't matter to this bunch. Great tips on calling, bustin flocks, using blinds and more.

Fellas,

Next to Nitrocompany..the em hevi 7's will pattern the best you'll find readily available on the market, the 6's will bring the better patterns of other factory loaded 6's as well. ...with the right choke combo you can put some serious patterns up...we love to shoot and pattern here..

Default hevi shot

What is the effective killing range of the #7 hevishot compared to a #6 lead load?

With Nitro #7's I have killed turkeys out to 63 yards. I know several people that have killed them to 70 yards. Having said that you have to have the pattern at that range. The Federal Heavyweights, and TSS shot will extend the killing range even more if you can get the pattern out of them.
If you can get the pattern the lead #6's will reliably kill to 50 yards...problem is getting the pattern.

Hurricane

Shooting the Nitro 4X5X7 triplex 3.5" load from a Mossy 835 I've killed 1 turkey stone dead at the distance you mentioned, another one at 61 and another one at 59. That load is mostly 7 hevishot with a lot of 6-7-8-9 shot mixed in because it seems to be very heterogenous. I have hesitated to post that because some people here get really bent out of shape when you talk about killing turkeys at that distance but it is the truth. I would not have taken those shots without extensive patterning work and complete confidence with the expected result.

I absolutely do not take reckless shots at turkeys because I respect the bird that much. In each case that was as close as he would get. All three of those had multiple hits to the head and neck and were very dead - they did do the reflexive neurological flopping but I just stood there and let them flop because I knew they were poleaxed.

Just my experience and opinion

That right there is the key. Sounds like you have put a bit of work into your rig.

I wouldn't worry too much about the people that get bent out of shape. They haven't put the time into your rig, and they aren't going to be there for your shot.

Happy hunting!
