?can you tell a jakes gobble, from a longbeard?
..Ive been at this for 26 plus years, some say they can tell a jakes gobble
from a longbeard, but im hear to tell ya dont count on it,you can dispute
if you like, but i killed lots of what others thought were jakes turned out
to be longbeards,so i never say (hey i hear a jake gobbling) for me i leave
that up to the experts...so can you tell a jakes gobble............

IMO, and from my experience , most of the time, a high pitched gobble, will be a jake. but not always. my son' s first turkey was a jake, and I would have sworn he was the king of the hill from the tone of his gobble.

I don' t believe that anyone can tell the difference between the two. I will be the first to say that sometimes other then with the broke up gobble of the jake I have a good idea it was a Jake but at most times I can not tell...BT

Tot,anytime someone tells me they hunted a longbeard all mornin and never seen em but the bird gobbled good tells me alot of how much experience they have huntin turks!!!!Only thing I can say is a longbeard often times can carry his obbles a little longer than a jake!!But to be able to judge a mature tom from a jake by his gobbles on a consistent basis takes something more than I' ve been able to figure out!!

alot of times it is hard to tell. I' ve been fooled alot. But every now and then you' ll hear one do a jake yelp and throw in a short terrible gobble. Only when they do that can i tell.
RE: ?can you tell a jakes gobble, from a longbeard?
I' ve thought about this question a lot because I' ve called in my share of jakes. I' ve often thought the lower the gobble the better chance it is a long beard but I' ve only noticed a difference when you have one mature tom gobbling with another jake or two, often on the roost at first light.
Could I hear a gobble and ever say " that is a jake?" Probably never. I' ll stick with assuming they' re all long beards until I have them close enough to check out their beard and fan.

THE ONLY TRUE TEST OF A JAKE GOBBLE THAT I HAVE HEARD IS WHEN HE SOUNDS LIKE A DOG BARK.IT WILL ALWAYS BE A JAKE.IF HE TRULY GOBBLES,HE SOUNDS LIKE A MATURE BIRD BUT COMES IN VERY QUICKLY AND IT IS DIFFICULT TO TELL FROM MATURE BIRD UNTIL HE IS CLOSE ENOUGH TO SEE HIS BEARD.BE CAREFUL I HAVE HAD " FLASH" HUNTS ESPECIALLY AT MIDDAY THAT WERE MATURE BIRDS.
