Man what i day i had i think i went through every emotion a turkey hunter goes through today but not giving up got me my first longbeard. If any of you read my last post (one last hoorah) then you know the trouble i was having with these birds. Well yesturday morning i set up 40 yds from where i bumped them 3 days before. Well it was very quiet morning not one gobble and to beat it all after fly down i could see the birds fly up on top of the ridge! The place where i had hunted the first 2 weeks because they normally flew up there unless i was hunting it seemed. So i was pretty ticked and depressed but decided to stick it out where i was till at least 10am. I then decided to get back on top to where i had been many times this year[:@]. When i got up on top the place looked like a hurricane hit it. Leaves were tore up everywhere! For some reason my gut sd to stay here and hunt the rest of the day so i set my decoy up and started calling. Very first time a gobbler thundered off a ways to my right. So i worked him in to seemed like 40 yds then he just shut up. I know a good 20 mins went by of silence. I thought now what i dont wanna call and mess this up but i dont where he went. So i did a soft purr and man he thundered ! I was on a little knoll and all i saw first was this big fan go up! What a sight! my first gobbler i had even seen in the woods strutting at 20 yds ! [:-] To me this would have been enough but to actually drop him at about 15 yds was a dream come true! What a great season its been for me with the first 2 yrs not even seing a bird to my third seing lots of birds and calling them in. To getting one. I can really see now how beautiful a sport this is. Thanks to everyone on here for your advice you all were with me in spirit yesturday as i scrambled to remember everything i had learned from you guys at the moment of truth. I will get some pics on here very soon Thanks! and God Bless!
Good going Lil E!! Sounds like another recruit for the " Hooked For Life" club. My seasons are over but I' ve always been one to relive the memories from years past quite often. Sounds like a great day in the field...
