Well guys, the 7-8 year turkey hunting drought is finally over!!! I still can' t believe it.
Garen and I went up to Kansas to catch the last weekend of the season up there. Friday afternoon it was pouring down rain, cold and windy, the works...
We saw some birds off the road in a field and decided to try to get on em...well...we got our guns, sprinted through 3 fields because it was getting dark and we were running out of daylight...
Come to find out, we went past the turkeys and had to backtrack. Garen figured he knew where the turkeys were going to roost, and sure enough he did. We got on the back corner of a field...and here comes a tom bustin up over a little hill in the field straight towards us. (we' d been there for about 5 minutes) We didn' t call or anything...I got my gun up...he walked in...and BAACOW!!! I laid the sucker out...
He ended up going 18 pounds, 10 3/4' s beard, 13/16' s spurs...not a bad first bird.
Speakin of which, it feels good to get the monkey off of my back.
