Turkey Hunting Whether it's spring or fall doesn't matter to this bunch. Great tips on calling, bustin flocks, using blinds and more.

Default One less Maine Turkey in the woods!!

Hey Fellas,

Just wanted to let you know that my father got his first Tom this morning at 8:30 am. I will remember this for the rest of my days. I have never seen my old man so happy and proud!!

I called for him all morning bringing in 3 jakes within 20 yards. He wanted a mature Tom so he passed on them like he has all week. I can' t tell you how many birds we have passed up in order to get him the trophy he was looking for. So to make a long story short we waited for awhile after the Jakes went by and picked up and went to another spot. That spot yielded no birds so we were driving back to the original location (Where we saw the Jakes earlier) and notice a group of mature birds strutting in a field across from where we hunted earlier. The problem is that field is off limits. The people don' t like hunters. So just for the fun of it I brought out the slate call and was cutting up a storm and the birds responded and came running!! I told my father that we should go back and sit on the edge of the field we were near this morning. So we did that we parked the truck up the road at the person who gave us permission to hunt their land' s house and headed to the field edge. Then I started calling. The funny thing is about all this is that I had to call the birds across the road from one field to the next. The birds wasted no time and came across the road stopping traffic and down within 10-15 yards of my old man. (I was set up 15-20 yards behind my father calling) We were in the woods quite a ways so the birds came into the woods and were looking for the lonely hen. The bird came strutting right towards my father and gobbled right at him. My father responded with a call of his own!! A loud blast from the 12 gauge Remington 1100 Magnum with Fedral 5 shot!

What a hunt I will never forget this day. Nothing like enjoying the woods and what it has to offer with your family especially my father!!

Tom' s Specs..... 20lbs 10 3/8" Beard with 1" spurs on both legs. It is a beauty!! The beard is nice and thick too!!

Take Care,
