I had two gobblers come in today with a hen, they stayed about 80 yards out she would' nt come in and they were' nt comin in without her,The dominate bird did gobble to every call i made,So far every gobbler me and my buddies have seen have been henned up they just won' t come in without those hens[:' (] Oh well i' ll be out there tomorrow to try again.

This morning was a great gobbling morning in my area. I' ve had a tough time of it since Saturday but today the birds gobbled great. I coaxed one into shooting range but didn' t get a shot. Things are looking up though.

seems like less hens then previous years to me.....of the 2 days i hunted got screwed off the roost by some other hunters...then went to a field and called for a while then about 30 mins later got 3 or 4 going on the other side....then we set up at another spot on the edge of a field calling facing in the woods...callin in a gobbler and 2 hens...he was just a few yards to far..second day i went to my spot that i always walk and scout for deer and turkey and my plans all unfolded perfectly..only they roosted way on another hill...but i sat and called for an hour after trying to locate one over a mile or so with no luck..called from 7-8 with my box and glass nice and slowly and about 8 i heard gobble obble obble....then another...hit my box call really excitedly...got my gun up and there he was.....the rest is history......i think turkey hunting is a game of patience......

yea there are all kinds of green fields around.....and there are tons of differents spots that i know turkeys frequent. i scout almost year round. my area (warren county) is supposed to be one of the best hunting areas in the state, thats why i moved here.....this year is a very odd year. My philosophy is this:

i think that there are too many hens due to hunters not doing much fall hunting. it doesn' t help the fact that a ton of campers ( city slickers who hunt a couple times a year....which i used to be one of them) come in a week or two before the season and start calling all through the woods. i' m going to get out there tomarrow morning bright and early to try again.

thanks for the advice everybody

Do you think that maybe all those camper/hunters who run around in the woods for a week or two before the season might be shutting the birds up? I was in a place this spring that had a lot of hunters/pressure before and at the opener, and I thought the birds were awfully quiet for the time of the year, they' s gobble at flydown and then shut up, and I' d wondered if all the hootin' and yelpin' had maybe made the toms hush-mouthed. What do you think??

got a new place to hunt and we went out tues, weds, and thurs. every day we heard birds. tues we called one in from about 200 yards but he didn' t want to cross a stream to get to us so we watched him walk at about 150, weds we heard 5 on roost and nothing after that, thurs, heard 3 on roost, but only one goobled on the ground about 8 times, he was a jake and he only came within 55 yards or so...i passed...too far and then i had a hen come into my decoy and saw another hen in the fields feeding......going to try my luck again tommorrow
