Default Turkey Gang Fight

Crazy thing I ever seen this morning.

Set up on some birds this morning off the roost, watch 6 Toms cut across the field below me about 150 yards. Did a couple calls and they were more interested in the hen on the field edge.,

Let them get out of sight and then went to a spot I was pretty sure they would be heading to.

About 1/2 later I did some soft clucks and the two birds gobbled. So I just sat patiently, one of the birds gobbled, and I knew they were on there way. Caught some movement in the field turned slowly here come five Jakes from behind me I let them walk by at about 25 yards. They look like they are going to head into the woods and this is when everything went nuts.

I see the other birds literally run out of the woods into the field, and start hammering on the Jakes, chasing, fighting, fighting purring it was nuts. There was at least 3 pairs of birds fighting ata time. One jake got pinned and he got doubled teamed. Totally nuts for about three or four minutes. I've seen a couple aggresive Toms go at it before but I have never seen nor heard of this happening before.

It was like some thing out the move"Warriors" or "Boy's in the Hood"

I think a pecking order was established this morning.

lol.

Man, the're crazy aren't they? You shoulda moved in on them[8D]. Dad has always told me when they are fighting you can just about walk up on themand they won't pay any attention. That's the whole thing on B-mobile and Pretty Boy.

That must have been exciting, i saw 4 jakes try to gang up on 2 toms the day (used to be 3 but i shot one ^.^) after i shot my bird, and the jakes got their butts handed to them. I think they realized one tom was missing and they had anopporunity for revenge, however the toms still put the jakes backin their place.

Them turkeys are always keeping the pecking order, pecked out, so to speak. I also witnessed a pretty good brawl just two weeks ago. We were set up not but about 200 yards from the roost and already had about 15 turkeys hangin' out infront of us, which included 6 jakes that kept running off a couple of two year old toms, when 4 long beards following about 9 hens showed up. The 6 jakes hung together and took off running toward the 4 long beards, and the long beards, already in full strutt, never broke strutt and went running towards the 6 jakes. SHTF to say the least. By the time it was all done, the 4 long beards were still strutting and the jakes had gotten seperated and were no longer "hangin" with the crowd.
I had shot a nice 3 year old bird before the 4 long beards showed up, and I took a picture the brawl had taken place. We stayed put in our ground blind until it was dark enough to sneak out without spooking any of the turkeys. Here's a picture of the group, after the brawl. The tom that I shot is lying just out of this picture to the right. He was between the two decoys when I shot him and he tipped the far decoy forward after I shot him.
