Turkey Hunting Whether it's spring or fall doesn't matter to this bunch. Great tips on calling, bustin flocks, using blinds and more.

Default whats up with these Turkeys

Hello, great site here.

I have been trying to get into turkey hunting without any hands on mentoring and have just been going at it myself.

The other day I went out for an evening hunt and spotted a group of 5 gobblers feeding in a meadow. I stepped back behind a wall of trees and tried yelping, and suddenly they bolted for the trees as if it actually spooked 'em. Is there something wrong with my calling, or do you reckon they have been getting a lot of pressure (this is public land).

Also, when I first saw them, their heads were white blue, then after they ran away, I intersected them as they crossed a gated road and their heads were bright red. Is that color change a sign of being spooked, or tired from running or what?

thanks

I'd guess thay saw you move. They have incredible eyesight and can locate the source of a call with great accuracy. I suspect they knew you weren't a hen. When they get excited their heads turn red.

I suck with reed calls but am mastering my slate with cuts purs clucks and yelps. I used to think I was telling them to run when using my reed because I have a gun when they would run off like that!
