Default newbie with turkeys

im starting turkey hunting this year. I dont know much about the sport as i am mainly just a deer hunter. I cant decide whether to take my 20 ga. 870 or my dad' s Mossberg 500 12 ga. I will be hunting very thick woods, so i wont have to shoot far. What do you guys think? Also, can you reccomend some good calls and complete setups that have worked for you in the past? Any advice will help!

timba....either gun will work. i like the primos power crystal slate call, very good. most of the lynch box calls are great. most any call will do, stay away from the Egg call...most loads by Winchester and Federal are very good on turkeys. #4 or 6 shot, or duplex loads(two dif shot sizes). ill write some more later. good luck timba

take the 12 ga and pattern it best you can. try and get 6 pellet in the head and neck min. as far as setup goes, if you seen turkeys where you re hunting, then i would just hunker down. use a decoy if you want, but they dont work if there aint a tom to see em. so you gotta do some scouting
