Turkey Hunting Whether it's spring or fall doesn't matter to this bunch. Great tips on calling, bustin flocks, using blinds and more.

Default Who has the best Rio's as an outfitter??

I'm planning a Spring 2009 hunt next year for Rio's but would like to hear opinions out there for those of you that have done this as well.

Basically, I will fly out from western PA and spend three days to hunt under as one hunter and of course use my bow. It seems Kansas is the place to go but again I'm using google for info.

Looks like an eastern whic I have plenty copper tips in the house. If that's the case I might want to go with a white tip Merriam. Any of those floating around Kansas. I know Merrians are futher North but I'll ask anyway.

There are plenty of places that provide Rio hunts in Kansas... one thing to realize is that a 19 pound Rio, is a big Rio...
Figure out where in the State your gonna go... It makes a huge difference.
If your DIY guy, Kansas has over 500,000 acres available to the public with a published atlas to these areas every year, and no one hunts it.
Eastern Kansas up to where route 77 splits the state has Hybrid/ easternturkeys, Western and south central has Full Rios.
This also helps when choosing an area as to some spots have 1 tag available, and some spots have 2-3 tags available.
Get an idea where you wanna hunt, then research available guys on google, but don't rely on any given outfitter to give you a deal on a big bird, ask around first.

i almost forgot... i did a "trade a hunt" this year with a guide in oklahoma, his pigs for my whitetails. he guides all rio's in oklahoma and texas, i know he had 100% success this year with all of his guys and they usually do. yancy is now a good friend and i can say he is a real good guide from what i have seen. if you want to try going further south to oklahoma or northern texas, send me a pm and i can get you his phone or email address.

just to explain on my earlier post ourland is split in 2 areas, river bottom rio's west of manhattan and easterns east of manhattan.

thanks,
vick

I went out to Kansas and hunted with Racks and Quacks.. They have good property and we seen lots of birds.. I shot mine within the first two hours of my hunt. He was not a monster but he was a good two year old tom. We went to another field though and seen a ton of big big toms but at that point I already had my bird.. Anywhere in KS is good but be careful where you go because some areas have high populations of easterns and hybrids.. Sumner County has only Rio's...

Here is a pic.. Good Luck..
