RE: Box Calls
I love box calls - They are a great item to get & collect.
The box call I have had the most luck with is one of the original Quaker Boy Boat Paddles. Awsome call, great range, really raspy, and the birds love them. The next best box would be a toss up between one of my old Butski Walnut boxes (the Rohm Brothers #302 looks like the same call) or my old Quaker Boy Grand Old Master. I also like the heartbreaker by Primos and it is a great call.
If I was to buy a new one I would get a good boat paddle, I like the all mahogony QB' s a lot, great sound good price. Also the solid KY Long Box by Knight & Hale sounds good (not the cheap laminated one). I also like the Cut N Paddle by American Friction but it is a bit expensive for the average " Joe" Hunter. A call I was really dissapointed in was the new Primos Battleship which when I tested one sounded really bad. I couldn' t believe it when I tried it, I think the sound chamber is way too wide so it just lost something in the sound category.
I have also heard great things about Dad' s Long Box & Camp Callers Screamin Hen.
Well there you go...I guess I got a bit carried away on the boat paddles but dang they sure work great.
Good luck with whatever you choose.
