Too much fun! my son Luke (12) went to a spot near Albany Ny for a try at his 2nd bird of the season... well, about 7am we got TWo big toms answering the calls, struttin and carrying on. I don't know who's gun barrel was shakin more, mine or Lukes!
The birds got about 70 yards out. i said " you get the one on the left, i'll get the one on the right".. well, they spotted the Jake decoy and went BERSERK! gobblin, spittin, struttin, runnin, they closed the distance to 20 yards QUICK. i said"ready?" "yes" said Luke... "on the count of three" one, two.....then Luke says "wait"... "WHAT?" i hissed at him "ok go" he says, and with that he flops the left bird and i pull the trigger a split second later and it was all over except the high fives..
His bird was 21 pounds, 1"spurs and 10" beard....Mine was 18 lbs 1" spurs and 10 inches also.... he beat the old man, and likes to remind me in his subtle way. i tried switching the birds when he was going to get the truck (i let him drive on the farm we hunt-he loves it) but he was'nt falling for it!
Another great day , i am blessed! pics soon!
