Bout 8-10 yards in KY last yr. Was setup just over a little knoll and actually saw the fans of 3 nice longbeards for what seemed like eternity(30 seconds...lol) before I could make the shot. This has to be heaven on earth come April and May.
Probably 6 to 7 yards. Be sure and aim where the neck connects to the body in case your aim is off just a bit or he moves his head just as you shoot. Gives more room for error and less movement if he gobbles. They' re really easy to miss that close.
Mine was about 8 ft. I think he heard me walkin. When he gobbled he was just down over the bank, I knew he was too close to try to move so I just sat down where I was and gave one cluck and there he was.
I guess the shortest - 15 yards with a bow longest 40 with a shotgun. It' s kind of like this with my shotgun if they get inside of 40 I know I can blast them so I guess 25-30 is about average with my shotgun. With a bow once they hit 20 I let her fly when I get the chance!
