scored big on PA turkey opener.. havested my first bird ever...heard lots of gobbling from every bird but this 1.. never heard him.. he just kinda snuck up i guess..
started hunting at 6 am.... around 630.. 4 guys show up at our spot.. we tell them we are there.. so instead of moving somewhere else.. they set up 40 yards away.. take about rude.. by hunting buddy went over to talk to them for a couple minutes just to make sure they wouldnt intentionally screw up our hunt.. he returned.. and we sat and chit chatted for a min or two when i look over, and 30 yards from out decoy is this bird!!.. scared th sh!!t out of me to say the least.. caught completely off guard and umprepared.. he walked behind a tree and i managed to should my gun,, as soon as his red head popped around the back side of the tree i let him have it!!.. and let me tell u.. my gun groups nearly all pellets in a 6" circle at 25 yards.. he was at 30.. i thought his head fell off.. the federal mag shock really put em down.. !!
bird weighs 25.3 lbs (put him on a shipping scale)
1 leg had a 1" spur.. it was broken
other leg 1 3/4" spur !!
9 3/4 " beard
not bad for a first turkey !!
