Turkey Hunting Whether it's spring or fall doesn't matter to this bunch. Great tips on calling, bustin flocks, using blinds and more.

Default On the scoreboard in Indiana!

Well we're up in northern Indiana hunting the first 3 days of the Spring turkey season with Kevin Smith and River City Outfitters. Today (opening day) was not exactly as we had thought it would be with the weather, etc. We got to our first field and found out that another hunter had come in and setup down wind of us about 300 yds! We had birds at first light in the field, a long beard and a jake, and then a hen came out. They worked the field for about 20 min. and went towards the other hunter and at about 80 yds. this guy lets loose with 3 shots and doesn't do anything but ruin it for all, no birds nothing! Then we hear gunshots from through the woods behind us a quarter of mile or more. We have some hens putting etc. in the woods, and finally before we knew it we had 4 huge longbeards come running out of the woods behind us and come running to the side of our spread!! We had setup with the intention of trying to take 2 or 3 or possibly 4 birds down on video and it really was shaken up with all the extra ciricular activities going on, otherwise we would have really been in the money!! Well Mitch and Kyle were able to shoot at the longbeards and Mitch hit his bird!! It was Mitch's first turkey, he is 16, and it was a DANDY!! 26 3/4 pounds, 10 3/4" beard, 7/8" spurs (a 2 1/2 yr. old bird probably), and all 4 of those birds were of the exact same size!! We got the hunt on film as it transpired and even the shots from the other hunter as he let fly on those birds in the field!! It was a weird morning, but a great time and congrats to Mitch on his very first bird!! Here are some photos of the morning!! We are hitting it hard Thurs. and Friday as well, so hopefully we'll get a few more on video to share!

And the group photo at the end of the hunt! Great morning!
