Turkey Hunting Whether it's spring or fall doesn't matter to this bunch. Great tips on calling, bustin flocks, using blinds and more.

Default How long after a miss?

Hey guys, So today my son and I went out to some public land by my house as soon as we got out of the truck we heard birds going crazy. We got all set up and soon enough I had two nice birds about 25 yards away. I told my son to get on the bigger of the two and shoot, well needless to say he shot and the birds took off unharmed. My question is how long should we wait before hunting this area again? I have plenty of spots, but would like to try to get this bird again.

i have seen people turn right around the next day and use the same spot effectively.especially if you heard more than the two birs that you saw.

All depends on the pressure. Don't expect to hear them roaring on the limb tomorrow morning in the same spot... but heck you never know. Nothings absolutely set in stone with turkey hunting.

If you do decide to go back though, one thing I would definately do is switch your routine up a bit... if you used a slate call this morning, use a box tomorrow... basically try to sound like a totally different hen, and maybe even try to call from a different spot. Without being there its tough to give perfect advice, but just look at the big picture, chin up your son and stay confident and you'll get him.

Default Thanks for the help

Thanks for the help and advice guys. Our permits only allow us to hunt weekends anyway so hopefully the birds will be calmed down by then.

I've missed before and a little while later shot a bird in that same spot. So I'd say go back to that spot any time you want. Those turkeys are constantly on the move so you should have nothing to worry abuot hunting in that same spot.

I like to sit still, and wait an hour, let the area cool down, and get back to normal. then I will use a different call, to get them back or another around (remember, if those Tom's liked the spot another will too). I will keep the call I used handy, because they might like it better. Done this different times in past, worked. Also, shot several tom's waited and buddy shot his minutes later.

Stay chalked,
todd

Ive spooked roosted birds, and they will return to the same tree in an hour or two.
