fingerz42 is right they will not gobble every night you can try to shock gobble them but that doesnt always work either.

It depends on the birds, The birds here tend to do better with a crow call in the evening owl in the morning, but dont be afraid to try both. Dont over do it once you have a location dont keep calling just to hear them gobble, call locate get out. A coyote call can work too.

I always use an owl call whenever the sun is going up or down.

In the afternoons where I hunt I get basically no response. By afternoon I mean around dusk, when they are flying up to roost. I dont usually ever hear the birds gobble there. But I go back in the morning and day after day I hear 3-5 gobblers in there gobbling. So I know they are there, they just arent vocal in the late afternoon. In the mornings I dont use calls at all. They will gobble on their own.

In addition to what others use.........
I have used a gobble call or a silent dog whistle with some success.........the best time to get them to sound off - IF- they wanna is the last 10 minutes of daylight is what I found. That secret twilight hour - which is just a mater of a few minutes. Get there before or after that and you have a case of LockJaw! Waht I watch for is the other tweety birds in the area - you'll see them go down or go to roost and I get busy.
