Default Kansas Pays Off

I got back from my trip yesterday after shooting my first RIO! The weekend weather was horrible with high, cold winds. There were 4 of us in camp and we took home 5 birds. The biggest went 25lbs with a 10 inch beard! Nope, not mine... Good trip and I will defenitly go back.

Congrats on a nice trip! I'm leaving the 28th for a six day trip to north central KS. I also drew a tag in Iowa this year. I've been lucky enough to hunt all over the country, and this midwest swing is my absolute favorite. Through trial and error,I've discovered that waiting untill the end of April makes for a better hunt. Weather is rarely an issue, and the birds seem way more receptive. In addition,I rarely run into any other hunters. Tons of fun!

I think I will be going back next year for the third week of April. The weather is just crazy this time of year.

This year has been like last year... I remeber last year I got hit with some sleat, rain, snow, and ice... ended up with my camo frozen to the tree behind me.
Congrats on the Rio... There are alot of birds here... alot of out of state guys here this year as well.

Hey King, I know seeing a lot of out's stater can be frustrating. You should see Co during elk season! I alwys treat land as if it were my own and take care of it the best I can. Truth is I spend a lot of time in Kansas because my girlfriend if form Rose Hill and that means many trips to see the fam. Any way, I do need some help if you don't mind. I still have a tag left and was wondering if you know of any good areas with in 3 hours of Denver? Thanks for the help.

I can hook you up next time you come out to Rose Hill area... I think thats still unit 2. I may not have a tag for long.....
I don't mind the out of state hunters... I'm more or less making a point that people are traveling great distances to come here and shoot birds...
