Default Roosting Turkeys

What is the best method to roost a turkey. A little green at this, how do you go about it. When you say roost do you go at the birds and make them fly into a tree.

When roosting turkeys I try not to enter the woods or make myself visible to the turkeys. I then use an owl hooter, crow call or gobble tube at sunset. It depends on which call I use. This year its has been the gobble tube. You must scout and get knowledge of the turkey patterns. It would be best to make an early morning run to your woods before the season starts. Then you can find out where they are roosting in the morning. Then once sunset gets close go out and try to get one to gobble before he goes up in a tree. Do not use any type of yelps or cutts at sunset. It will only educate the birds. Turkeys generally use the same area to roost...

Weather you know if there are turkeys in the area or not go to the areaat dusk or dark and call using an owl call, coyote call etc. You can call at your vehicle then at a high point. Using these calls you can pinpoint where the turkeys are roosting because the Gobblers will respond to your locater calls by gobbling, this is called Roosting turkeys. Don't disturb them.

Turkeys sleep in a tree (Roost) usually on a ridge, hill, or by a creek or river, they will not be far from water. After you have there roost pinpointed you can go in the next morning beingcareful not to be seen and pattern them. Patterning them is finding out where they go after fly down if you can find the roost and the strut zone you will have most the work done.
Good luck and be safe!
