Got my 1st bird of the year this morning, guess I can quit calling in to work so much. The crazy thing is since opening morning I have not heard them gobble. Even this morning I was caught a little off guard had three sneak right up behind me. I had been giving some soft yelps, but had got no feed back. When I saw them I stoped calling and just hoped they would see my decoys. Two didnt but one did, they were all pretty close to the same size. I had my hen on the ground and my jake set up behind her. Without saying a word he walked right up struting the whole time and walked right in front of the gun. I felt like I was deer hunting almost first time I have ever killed one without hearing a single gobble all morning. It was just three toms so they were not henned up I dont know; go figure.
I had 4 gobblers come in behind me once. I could hear them in the dry leaves for a hundred yards at mid morning. They walked in on both sides. The big one was 35 yards away before I could get my gun in position with all those eye watching....

Chuck,
Its fantastic to see people getting into the sport. I enjoy turkey hunting almost as much as spring topwater bass fishing
This place has all sorts of information on turkeys. Hopefully, we see you with a few more bigguns in the future.
