Default lesson learned this weekend.....

If you've got a shot, take it. was hunting a large peanut field this weekend in georgia. Had four hens in the field from sunup to about 8:30, and then here comes the man. by far the biggest gobbler that I've ever personally had in front of me. He strutted around at about 200 yards with the hens for an hour and a half and we couldn't get him to break away.watched him breed a hen in front of us and everything, it was amazing. finally with some purrin and cluckin we got the hens to come our way and the gobbler followed just behind them.THEN, all hell broke loose. from our right(which was our blind side) four jakes came runnin in like they were gonna do somethin. at this point I had a clear shot on the gobbler at 30 yards but decided to hold off in hope to see a good wrestlin match with some jakes. well, unfortunately,he jumped in the middle of the jakes spurred twice, and the jakes ran off with the gobbler following back to the middle of the field....gameover. If I would've taken the shot when it first presented itself I would have had a very big smile on my face right now, but another lesson learned in the woods and a very neat experience.all in all georgia opener was exciting.

Exactly! You did some learnin' today. He'll be back and I'm sure you will as well. He won't be so lucky next time.
