Default I can't take the chance you don't do this...

I have been feeding Deer and Turkeys this is my second year. Here in Missouri they are hurting for food. You all probably don't need to be asked anyway. But I just feel I should have said something.

Its something how they find the Corn. They must here other Birds Happy are something. I am a Mile out of Town and 13 Long Beards and 3 Deer are eating 50 Lbs in 4 Days. Not counting Dove's and Squirrles. How much do you all feed who are not Farmers. I hand seeded some Chickory and I hope it comes back this Spring. I am feeding these Critters30 Feet from the house. They are only 12' from my Truck they are very hungry. So if you aren't already, buy some feed and put it off the Road and fill those Craws and Bellys.

What do you all think???

yeah, I usually feed them through the winter after bow season closes, but I went a week ago to buy some corn and that crap is up to $11.50 a hundred....!!!!!!!!!!!!! When I feed a while and we have snow and ice on the ground, the deer and turkeys will clean uip 100lbs a day!! Thats in a few different spots,, and who can afford that this year,, not me thats for sure,, I guess they will have to get pretty hungry this winter, hopefully next year my plots will last longer and they wont kill them by the end of Oct.

I really don't feed unless I need to. Something that you should keep in mind is to make sure there is No dust in the corn. They call this washed corn or dust free. Dust + dampness can cause disease in the flock.Try to use a sealed feeder, so the corn stays dry. Another point when you have deer eating from the same sources is to make sure they can not eat from a heap of feed this can cause CWD. Control feed your wildlife and they will do OK.

I'm not sure how much snow you all get in Missouri, but the problem we get here at times is that a foot or 2 will drop and a freezing rain will come and cover the snow in a hard coating of ice. With the way the winter has been here the snow levels came faster this year and we had a Ton. At one point we had close to 4 feet on the level and a hard crust at the 3 foot mark.

This is out my back door

It's illegal in NY to feed the critters...Like Adrian stated concentrating them in one area to feed can cause the spread of diseases like CWD and CWDhas beenfound herein the deer herd.

I'll feed my deer and the few turkeys I have up until 15 days before turkey season opens. You can feed them year round. You just better not get caught turkey hunting on the corn. I have afeeder going right now with a corn-wheat mix. You think corn is expensive? Wheat costs over two times more than corn for a 50 pound bag. Believe me I use corn more than wheat these days. Of course the animals don't rely on supplemental feed in the winter like they may in areas up north. No snow down here to cover a food source. The corn does give them a little extra through the winter though.

Ethical baiter, hmm. At least you called me ethical. For some reason those two words just don't seem to go together. Don't worry, I would never hunt a turkey over any kind of bait, be it legal or not. I appreciate the kind words, I think.[8D]
