I am planning on purchasing some 3.5 inch 1 3/4oz #6's. Has anyone used hevi shot loads for turkeys? If so, do they pattern as well as they are advertised? I am going to shoot them through my browning gold hunter with the pattern master choke tube.

Generally the hevi shot loads with the right choke will significantly outperform regular plated lead shot and give increased penetration. They will stretch your effective range another 5 yd.or so. Theyalsousuallyrequire a more open choke for maximum performance.
Its funny how everyones guns are different. My Super nova with the Jelly head Flight control, and Hevi 13 didnt pattern that well. The old school Hevi shot #6 and Winchester supreme elite Xtended range 3.5" #6 shot also shot very well.
As for the 12 gauge, I tried some of the old products that was started in the heavy shot field and found that because I was a turkey hunter that was limiting myself to the 40 yard max range, that a good load of 3 " Winchester #5 HV copper would do the trick. My choke was working fine and the gun produced a constant tight pattern at 40 yards.
I tried some of the heavy shot and found there was Not a large difference and the cost did not add up to using the loads.
When I built my 20 gauge turkey gun I seen a complete change, maybe the newer products out there or it was just the load size of the 20 gauge halls. I found that Heavy shot would produce a tighter more dence pattern, so it was tuning in a choke shell combo to work in this gun. I would say it changed this gauge from a true 30 yard shooter to a true 40 yard shooter, but only with the right choke.
With the testing I've done what I did find out was a.575Rhino choke tube and copper loads patterned well in this 20, but when it came to Heavy shot the Precisions Arms .575 held the Hevi 13 #6 togeather better.
I guess it boils down to the point of if you want to spend the extra money on a shell or not...
I tried the Hevi-shot Hevi-13's 3.5" #5 through my Remington 870 SPS-T with thumbhole and a Primos Jellyhead choke and my pattern was pretty bad. I had much better patterns with the Federal with flight control and the Winchester Supremes. If you find the right choke, they will be a great load to shoot.

Every gun is different. They are awesome in my 870. My brother's 870 won't shoot 'em worth a darn. Good for me---I got the rest of his shells pretty cheap.
