Turkey Hunting Whether it's spring or fall doesn't matter to this bunch. Great tips on calling, bustin flocks, using blinds and more.

Default Jellyhead vs. Patternmaster

I have a Primos Jellyhead choke in my Remington 870 right now and my Dad uses one in his Benelli. We both shoot 3 1/2" Hevi-shot #6s. The performance is fine with these chokes out to 45 - 50 yards, but I know the Hevi-shot will kill birds farther if the pattern stays tight enough. So are the Patternmaster Extended Range Ported chokes worth investing in or what do you all think? I'd like to be able to reach out and touch birds at 65 yards if possible.

Shoot 3.5 inch loads and get closer than 65 yards

You shouldn't want to shoot one at 65 yards. I don't care what you are shooting, 65 yards is a very risky shot. Sure you can do it, but more turkeys are wounded at that range than killed. Try limiting yourselfto 50 yards and under. I've never tried a patternmaster, but I do use the Jellyhead, and have had great success with it, but I have never tried a shot at 65 yards. I like to get them in at 40 and closer.

Agreed. 50 yards is my personal max as well and the closer I can get them, the better. Besides...that's half the fun getting them that close.
