RE: How many (Turkey's) have you taken?
Well guys This will Be my 7th year chasing them old Gobblers. Man seems like just yesterday Mike was trying to talk me into giving it a try, and I didn't know squat about turkey hunting. Turkey hunting was only 2 or 3 years old around here (northern Wisconsin). Mike and his father were the only people I knew who were doing it. I thought turkeys were nothing but a stupid bird you could just walk up to and club over the head. I worked for Jerome Foods, Now owned by Jennie-O The Turkey Store. I worked on a turkey farm and saw those white turkeys every day. So My ideia of turkeys was tainted. I wondered what could be so fun about hunting a stupid Turkey. Boy was I in for a big surprise.
The first two years I tried it I got skunked. I could have shot a Jake the second year but I had my sights on a Gobbler Mike and I named the RattleSnake for his unique gobble. He gave us the slip every time and most likely died of old age. Since then things have gotten better. So out of the six seasons under my belt I have four spring Gobblers, and a Jake I shot last fall. Last Spring I got a dandy 23lbs 9 1/2 inch beard and 1 3/8 hooks on both legs. He is at the taxidermist. I have Been a part of countless other successfull hunts with Mike and other friends.
Boy How wrong I was, Turkey Hunting Rules!
The worst day in the Turkey woods Is by far, more fun, than the best day of any thing else I have ever done.
