Turkey Hunting Whether it's spring or fall doesn't matter to this bunch. Great tips on calling, bustin flocks, using blinds and more.

I'm looking to purchase a left handed turkey shot gun. What does anyone suggest or know about? I noticed quite a few of the right handed gunshave barrels of21-24". Would a 28" barrel Remington 870 Express be too long of a gun? Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

A 28" barrel would be fine for turkey hunting. Shorter would probably handier if you hunt in thick cover, I doubt anyone has not gotten a turkey because they had a 28" barrel. As far as a lefty gun, you can't improve on a Browning BPS. D@mn fine shotgun. They come in 22"-30" barrel lengths.

Well being a lefty myself,I can tell you a Remington is the wrong choice with their danged crossed bolt safety located on the trigger gaurd...You can have it converted to lefthand but why bother when there are shotguns with a top tang safety thatare perfect for the lefthander...Mossberg has their safety on top...Not a fancy gun but is a true work horse...My first turkey gun was a Mossberg 500 that I had the 24" smooth bore slug barrel modified to take screw in choke tubes and topped it off with a Bushnell Scope...Deadly little gun but the shells eject into your face...A few years ago I purchased a Browning BPS with a top tang safety and bottom ejection...SWEEEEEET!!!...It's the perfect shotgun for the lefthander without paying the extra moneyof buying a regular lefthanded shotgun.

Here are a couple of pictures of my 2 setups...

Im a lefty and have given up on trying to find lefty guns....you pay more, and its harder to sell. Just buy a RH shotgun you will be fine. I just bought a Benelli supernova and have had no problem shooting it, loading it, or using the safety.

Go with what your comfortable shooting, I'm also a lefty and have been shooting right handed shotguns and rifles all my life, I bought a left handed rifle some years back but find it awkward after using right handers for so long. If it's comfortable and you shoot well with it, thats what you should use.

TroutMan,

If you are only going to hunt turkeys with it and not having to (Hopefully) have a need for lots of second and third shots, and (I'm going to open a can of worms here) you aren't subject to bother by greater recoil, then the pump, any pump, is the way to gowhether 870, B-Nova, Win., Mossberg, BPS, etc. BUT I would say that the BPS and mossberg have top of received safteys which might be a bit less confusing.

28 inch barrel will certainly work but if you are using it strictly for turks why not choose a 26 or 24 if you can? Easier for ducking and dipping and diving and dodging as they said in the stupid movie Dodgeball. Shooting the gun 'rifle' style your not losing anything shooting a shorter barrel, I wouldn't recommend going to 24 if you were going to hunt other stuff with it, but bottom line, barrel length (and mostALL of the rest of thestuff we like to give advice on around hereis a personal choice). Its good to get 'informed' or as I call 'armed with enough information to hurt myself' but after that get out and take a look at some of the best options.

Whatever you choose, work with it, pattern it, try a different choke or 3 and a couple different shell or 4 and you'll find something that will kill-em dead!

Good luck
God Bless
I can't wait till spring!!
