Default Preferred roosting trees

Where I hunt, the turkeys will roost 99% of the time in large pine trees. Even though I have plenty of large oaks, they will still roost in pines. I know there is not much of achoice in most of Texas, mesquites, butwhat type of tree do your turkeys prefer to roost in?

Red maples, sometimes over wet areas, sometimes not, and to a lesser degree oaks. Usually about 3/4 of the way up the tree.

The limbs they roost on are usually pretty small. I think it may let them feel a predator like a coon better than a larger limb. Just a guess though.

Come to think of it, I would like to see a coon try to kill a roosted turkey.

here in mn, i find most turkeys like to roost in pines some of the time. But often they roost in the huge tamrack swamps, they feel the safest there.

Around here it seems to me they go for what ever big tree is close at hand... In my woodlot i see them in big maples and oaks... Hereby my house, they roost in a blk walnut or in a big boxwood tree by my ponds... I actually don't see any ryme or reason to which one they will choose...

Usually they are in pines if they are available around me. They seem to like them more than other trees.
