Great season so far. I finally got number 13 down in the Allegan State game area in Michigan. Check out my post to team 10. Good luck to all and have a remainding blessed season.
Team,
I killed another longbeard around 2:00pm this afternoon in the Allegan State Game area. Didn't have the correct sportcard number when I arrived this morning, so I had to wait until DNR opened up to contact them. I took a nap in the car and woke up around 11:00am before getting my license. Went to two spots before finding success. I hunted near the Allegan river and let me tell ya...put on the bug spray. I've never been swarmed by mesquitos like today. It was miserable, but after I got down to the river I made a couple of calls on my box call and didn't get a response. As I put my call away while walking through the woods I heard a hen start cutting and yelping excitedly. I sat down and did the same...mimicing all of her calls. After 10 minutes of talking back and forth between my calls and hers I decided to get up after being dinner to 100 mesquitos. Once I got up and headed into an opening of trees I stopped and decided to cutt a little on my mouth call. As soon as I stopped my sequence I heard a gobble! It was pretty crazy. I honestly couldn't believe it after how my day started. I then got my crystal call out and called on it as well as yelped on my mouth call at the same time. I wanted to make sure that he knew that there was more than one hen to choose from and after sitting down and hearing a couple more gobbles he was in my lap in 10 minutes. Currently he's in my freezer waiting to be eaten. Was a great hunt and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Check out the pic below. Take care guys and God bless.

I've got two questions. Have you ever heard of a thermacell? Do you have a job? You have to have a lot of time and go a lot of places to kill 13 turkeys. Pretty good season you got going there. You plan on hunting through May? Congrats on one hell of a season. What all states are you hunting this year?

Supperstrutter, I have heard of thermacell...actually I have two of them, but didn't think I would need them for this hunt. Needless to say, I was wishing for one around the time I visited the river and found that nice gobbler. And yes, I do have a job. I'm active duty Air Force stationed in Dayton, Ohio. We get 30 days of leave and can carry 60 days if you never use it. I pretty much save my leave for turkey season and put in for leave well in advance. I try not to take it in consecutive weeks because they count in the weekends as days. So this is how I have so much time off during turkey season. I plan well in advance as far as where I'm going and putting in for quota hunts. Next year I'm going to hit the northeast and possibly California, Nevada, Arizon, and Utah (if I get selected). I do my homework before making the effort to hunt these hard-to-get birds. I will not be able to hunt through May due to some military exercises going on. Next Saturday I leave for Fort Bragg for some Nuke mission. My objective is to decontaminate patients before they get medical treatment. It's only an exercise, but I must attend. I wanted to do a little more hunting, but looks like I'm down to three more days of quality hunting. Take care guys and if you have any other questions feel free to ask. God bless!

Good for you. Thank you for your services. Your time off is well deserved. Congrats again on all the birds.
