i have shot at 7 big old gobblers, the farthest one being 30 yards with my bow. about 4 of them were less than 15 yards. i can't hit them! it's either inches high, or just a hair low. i sliced feathers off a gobblers chest yesterday.(found out my pin was off). anyways, is there any advice on judging the distance. what can i do to help me judge the distance?
you can get a range finder that will tell you how far something is. this does require some movement though, so if you are well concealed and in a pop up blind or something that hides your movement, then this would be ok. Another thing that you can do is get something that kinda sticks out such as a big rock or a limb or something like that and use it as a marker and before you start hunting, put it out. Then, when the gobbler comes in and is standing next to that limb, you know he is X number of yards away.

Get yourself a rangefinder , if you can't get one the try to pace your distance from where your sitting to where you think you'll be shooting. Say if your set - up against a big tree or in a ground blind , walk out 10 , 20 and 30 yards and mark it off with something you can see but won't alert the birds. You could set up some decoys out as yardage markers , set a hen at 10 and a jake at 20 or vice versa.

Stick's and Rock's are a good thing to use,That way it's a natural looking object,,Get yourself a target of a Turkey and practice on it at the different distances,,That way you will have a better picture of your sighting in the feild as well.
Good Luck to You

I reccomend putting, rocks, sticks, etc out as well, but a cheaper alternative to buying a turkey target is to buy one of those $15 foldable foam decoys and set it up in front of your hay bail or target. You can usually find a friend or someone who has an old decoy and really save$. Practice shooting!!!!!!!!!!!
Try getting some judo or blunt tips and as you walk through woods pick out objects and try to shoot them (hint: use old arrows). This will help you hone your yardage skills. Shoot old stumps, twigs, leaves, etc. It's a little late to rely on improving your yardage skill now so keep practicing and use yardage markers.
