rain and maybe stormy weather

have any of yall killed a bird in this type of situation or have called one in?
i was just wonderin cus it might rain over at my place this weekend and it might get a bit cooler and i just wanted to know what would be yalls thoughts?

From what I know, the best thing area you can hunt while it is raining is an open field. With all the sounds that the rain makes when hitting the ground, turkeys tend to go out into open fields where they can use their eye-sight to avoid preditors. Somebody correct me if I am wrong.

Regardless, the turkeys will be out and about. They might not be very vocal, but they will still be out and come in to your calls. Just give your spots a little longer time than you normally would. Good luck

Fields. I went out yesterday to check my trail camera and it was raining, not very hard but still was coming down. I just get to the edge of the field and see about 20 turkeys out in the middle of the field. I've seen this before and I think it's just what Rob is talking about. Just like deer get real skiddish in windy weather.

I actually killed a turkey a few years back in a tornado. The gobbler had been strutting in a field on a rainy morning. The weather got worse, but he was just out of shotgun range with a bunch of hens, and I couldn't make myself leave him. Finally it started hailing, and this drove the turkeys from the field, right into my lap. I didn't call him up. I figure God was determined to help me with this old bird, and that's what he did. Later, I found out that a tornado had passed through, only a mile or so away.

I gotten on alot of turkeys during thunderstorms. I can't recommend hunting in the lightning, but they'll gobble their heads off at the thunder.

Agreed. I have heard countless number of times gobblers shock gobbling to the sound of thunder. If you have no clue where they are located, then hunting in a thunderstorm may help you.

oh ok well cus im heading out tomarrow and there is a 30-40% chance of thunderstorms and we just werent sure if we should go or not....what if the 20 acres i hunt on doesnt have a field?it has and pretty open area but there are still trees and shrubs in there but that is the most open spot of the place

Hunt the open spot if you can. Id suggest wearing good rain gear and bring a blind if you have one. I once sat for THREE hours in the rain getting absolutley soaked as I watched 3 hens dinking around when they finally went behind me for whatever reason. In the meanwhile my dads in the truck laughing at the strutting tom 20 yards behind me that was there for 2 hours until I stood up... smart dumb birds I tell ya![:@]

yea i have a ground blind i have a intimidator by ameristep and ill be sure to take some rain gear thanx for the tips

Last year was my first but during the rain I saw several gobblers out in the cornfield. Every one of them was on a green grassy patch along the cornfield edges where the rain runs off and the corn isn't planted. Open green patches would be my bet!
