Default Which shotgun to use?

Okay, my delima is as follows. I just traded my realtree 870 supermag turkey to a buddy for a brand new Marlin 336SS. This was at a bad time but a great deal. Now I have two 870s left at the moment that I will not part with and I have to choose. I have a tactical rig, 18" barrel set up for defense, improved cylinder fixed choke. I can shoot my 3" flitecontrol wads out of it. I also have a 40y/o Wingmaster which I havent sent to wilson combat yet so its still 2 3/4 only. It has a modified choke, 26" barrel. I noticed walmart has a 2 3/4 turkey load from winchester. Dont know if Federal makes one or not. I know i'll hafta pattern some to see for sure but i'm just wondering right off the bat what you guys would expect to do.

I tried the flitecontrol out of my IC just to see what it would do. The results were not very good at all but I could hunt with it if I had to. Do you have a bow?

The pattern board will tell you which one to use...Try them both on paper and see which provides the densest pattern...In either case, you are probably going to be limited to about 30 yards, or perhaps 35 MAX if you are lucky...Not a big handicap as long as you can judge distances well and allow the birds to get into range..

If I had to venture a guess, I'd say the modified choke will do better even though it's a 2 3/4" rather than a 3"... In any case, don't fool around with coarse shot such as 4s in those relatively open chokes...Sixes are sure to pattern better...

Been a lot of turkey's over the years killed with 2 3/4" shells and a modified barrel. Definately the way I would go.

Federal makes 2 3/4" flite control loads, and those coupled with that wingmaster will be your best bet. Do a little patterning work at 30 yards. You most likely won't be shooting past about 35 yards, if that even, but you can certainly kill birds with it just the same. If you can get them to 35 yards, you can usually get them to 25, you just need to be a little bit more mindful of your set ups.

it patterned fairly well. I didnt get to try many choke combos. I posted the results with the TruGlo GobbleStopper with Fed 3" #4 and Hevi 13 #6. I just found a box of #5 2 3/4 Federal Flite Control so I'll post the results in my Wingmaster monday or tuesday for all those po' folk who cant afford a super duper ultra magnum (which i miss but still an awesome trade)
