Turkey Hunting Whether it's spring or fall doesn't matter to this bunch. Great tips on calling, bustin flocks, using blinds and more.

Default Mossberg 535 with Red Dot

I know I have posted about patterning this gun before without the scope on it. I got a new battery and bought some Winchester 3" # 4's with the Mossberg XXFull turkey choke. I started shooting at 20 yards and totally destroyed the target, somewhere aroung 35-40 in the head and neck. I moved out to appx. 35 yards and still great results with 19-27 in the head and neck but patterning low and right. I made some adjustments and moved it out to 50 yards. 12-15 in the head and neck. I think I have found my set up and I will stick with this for this season. I am sure in the weeks to come I will try to showboat a bit and go out to 60 and 70 yards to see what happens.

The 3" loads have more pop but, feel it is worth it. I would reccomend this gun/combo to anyone for the price $299.99 at D!(k's. You can't go wrong.

Sounds good. Let us know what happens on the long range shots.

I've been told that I never have anything nice to say... So hear goes... Sounds like your gun is patterning pretty good I really think your cutting yourself short at 35 yards... That gun definetly sounds like a 60-70 yard gun...

I'll post when I know how far I can reach out and touch something. My dig cam does video, if I can figure out how to put one on here next weekend when I am shooting I will do it.

Hey Bullrider, I've got a Moss 500 and put a red dot on it and patterned it today, with the undertaker choke. At 40 yds I'm putting 25 in the head and neck and probably 80 or so on the 8x11 paper. I'm using Fed flight control 6's and Winchester Supreme 6's. I haven't tried it farther out yet. It'll probably shoot well out to 60.

I got a bad headache though, was trying to bench shoot off a bucket and I'm not used to scopes, you guessed it! Pow I got a bump the size of a golfball on my forehead, and bled like a stuck pig for a while! Luckily there was a snowbank still around and I stuck my head in it!

for Rookiebowhuntr_Pa- I don't think you will be disappointed one bit in this gun. It is on the light side so has some kick to it. Upon someones suggestion I did put a Primos recoil pad on it, works great!! Don't forget the $20 mail in rebate papers.

for Dr_Andy- When I put my red dot on I put it all the way to the front of the scope mount. It locks in nicely there, you can actually feel where it seats itself. Sounds like you have found a winning combination as well. I want to set my reddot to 70 yards with the (hopefully) dot on the top of the head and at 20 yards the base of the neck for good groups. I don't know if I will be so lucky but, that is what I am shooting for.

Bullrider do you know which type of winchester loads these are? super x, supreme high velocity, supreme elite, or supreme extended range? Did you happen to count how many were in a 10" circle? I have this same gun and i was not shooting a turkey target, instead I was shooting just plain white paper so i only know my count in a 10" circle. Any way the best i got so far was 137 BB's in a 10" circle at 40 yards with winchester supreme High Velocity 3.5" #6's, but it was with a jelly head choke.

If anyone is interested I also have shot plenty of other loads and I can tell you which one's to stay away from with our 535's some were as low as 52 in a 10" circle.
