Some friends have them or very similar shaker type gobble calls. One guy says he's really only gotten responses to his gobble call after making a few yelps on a mouth call. I guess the tom thinks another tom or jake is moving in on the hen.

Even they don't really use them too much. If the cap comes off the end they can make some weird noises in your vest if they get pushed or squished.

I know some people like it. I personally don't like or use it. I would rather use a owl or crow call for locating birds...more efficient in my eyes.

I have found that sometimes the gobble call can be effective on dominant birds that are hung up. The call can hurt you if you try this with subordinant birds so be carefull. I also like to use my owl call as a locator.

I only use my gobble when Im trying to locate them on roost. It works fine but I like to give just a few light shakes to sound like a jake. It seems like the mature birds respond a lot more. Good luck.

I have one but I don't use it as a locator call , I use it to entice other toms to come in closer.
It worked really good last spring , I was sitting in my Double Bull with my love triangle decoys set up in front of my blind and I did a couple of hen yelps with my mouth call.
Got a response back from a couple to young toms , then they stoped about 80 yards down the slope so I used my gobble call and they came in within bow range.

i think they are underrated. ive gotten responses off mine nearly every time i use it, and have never scared away birds with it, to my knowledge. I mainly use mine to locate birds (especially on roost) if they dont answer to hoot owl. it can work to help entice birds in too. try it and youll see.

I think they are more useful at attracting other hunters than turkey's. Although, if you have one of those full strut decoys, who knows. I make a gobble on a mouth call, and it has in fact, netted my party one turkey...although it was a Rio...and compared to the Easterns we usually hunt, Rio's are pretty easy. Just depends where you hunt.

I have been in situations that other locator calls just won't work, but get out the gobble call and you get a response. I would not go in the woods without it.
