Default Advice on Tube Call's

This is gotta be one of the few times that I had to ask for advice so please bare with me and don't laugh at this question.
I recently got this four in one turkey call at the Outdoorama in Novi, Mi. and this tube call came with it.
Of all the years I've been hunting and calling in turkeys , I never used one of these tube calls .
So my question is ... how do I use this thing to make all the sounds ?

Default RE: Advice on Tube Call's

RD over the past while I pretty well quit posting replies on this forum. Alot has to do with the attacks I've got from users here that are here for personal gain rather then to express some opinions that may help others.

As No one has answered this I will give you what I know on running a tube call.

A tube call can be a great call and a lot of fun using it. The best thing is that Most can not use them because they won't put the practice into this call that is needed to over come it.

The first thing with Tube or snuff can calls is the tension on the laytex across the mouth of the call. This can change the tone and pitch of the sounds that come from it. As a general rule once the right tension is found it will last untill the laytex goes bad. This is something to learn how to do because laytex only last so long outdoors and it will need to be replaced.

To use the call - The mouth end of the call should have a Bill or a lip mount along with a opening that should have laytex stretched across it. There should be an opening between them. The opening should be about 3 /16 wide.

Place your mouth on the call and allow your bottom lip to just cover the opening in the laytex. The laytex part should be in your mouth but should not make contact with anything but the bottom part with the opening that makes contact with your bottom lip. You are going to apply some presure to the laytex at this point by pushing it a little with your lip and taking a breath of air through your nose and slowly force the air through the call between your lip and the laytex into the gap and out the call. You should get a high pitch squeel.

Now by using your jaw to control the presure applied to the connection between the laytex and your lip, you should lower your jaw and the pitch will come down or lower. As you do this faster and faster putting both pitches togeatheryou will get a yelp. Note: if the tension on the laytex is not right the pitches could be off making the sound to high or too low, this takes time to find the proper level you want to hear.

To Cluck - on this call your mouth should be on the call the same and doing the same as the yelp but say TUK fast.

To Cutt - on the call say TuK fast a whole bunch of times on a uneven bases.

To Cackle - on this call say Tukfast a whole buch of times on more of a even pitch and allow the sound to be quiet at the beginning and end of the call.

To Kee-Kee - on this call keep the high pitch note of the yelp and adjust the pitch so that you get the Pee-Pee-Pee.

To Gobble - on this call say Tuka -Tuka-Tuka-tuka-tuka-tuka real fast.

Hope that helps ya ....

Thanks Adrian
I really apprecitate the good sound advice , it really makes alot of sense.
As I read your reply I had my tube call in hand and practiced everything you said and the sounds started coming out good.
I can understand why alot of turkey hunters don't use this type of call , being hard to master and the other types being easy to use.
I printed your advice and will continue to practice with the call , hopefuly I'll be able to use this call come tukey season.
Thanks again for your reply and by the way I enjoyed reading your articles in some of the magazines that I have bought in the past.
It's nice to knowthat I recevied good information from someone that really knows what he's talking about , when it comes down to the turkey hunting contest in this site , I hope you and I are on the same team.

I'll print that as well , you know what they say ," you can never have too much information " and I'll continue to practice with it.
Although the sounds are driving my dog crazy

Glad to see you back my friend.
That is some serious advice right there! I could add only one thing and that is make sure you huff the air and not blow it from your mouth. Huffing it from your lungs is much better.
Those tube calls are some of the best kept secrets for killing gobblers known to man.
