Default what to look for in a turkey spot?

ive been checkin in on this forum a bit lately cuz im gonna be in the woods this spring after the elusive Tom, and love all the information on here, seems i learn somethin every time. i was hoping somebody could help me get an idea of where to begin looking for a spot to hunt. i'll explain my hunting area, and hopefully you can offer some tips as some general areas to look like south facing slopes or w/e. I'll be hunting in north-central WI in an area that is mostly hilly land with maple, cedar swamps, marshes, and anywhere from 2-5 yr old aspen clearcuts. there are very few oak trees on the property, and not much for fields and no food plots. there is one spot im thinkin of already, its the single stand of oaks and the roads are planted with clover. its gonna be a spring hunt, so ik there wont be any acorns, but will they still be in there for the clover? also, there is some public land around me where there are grassy fields along the sides of the road, would those be worth checking out? when do you usually start scouting? i wont be hunting til the middle of may, but cant get out any time soon cuz we just got dumped on with almost a foot of snow and will likely get another foot this week. thanks for all the help, i know its alot of questions, im just anxious to get out.

Default RE: what to look for in a turkey spot?

I would start off with those stand of oaks near the road , once your out there start looking for droppings and feathers on the ground.
That should tell you the birds are roosting in those trees and then look for a near by water sourch , they like to roost close or over water.
When you get to the roads look for tracks and drag marks , that will tell you the birds are using that area as a struting zone.
The birds will travel to the clover fields looking for food like insects , so you might want to set up along the edge of that field.
The best time to be out to locate where the birds roost would be during the evening hours before sunset , try using a crow call or a screaming peacock or even a screaming Red Tail Hawk call to get them to shock gobble and give threre location away.
Hope this information helps and good luck to you this spring , have fun and be safe out there.
