Turkey Hunting Whether it's spring or fall doesn't matter to this bunch. Great tips on calling, bustin flocks, using blinds and more.

Default Scoring a Turkey?

I know that it is the weight, spur size, and beard length that goes into the score. But my question is what's a good score for a turkey?

Depends on where you are hunting. An example is a 20lb. bird with a 10" beard and 1" spurs would score 60 points. In my area that is a decent bird and anything that scores above say 65 is a good one. And, yes you could score a bearded hen, but her spurs would be very small.

and the NWTF calculator

http://www.nwtf.org/all_about_turkeys/turkey_score.html

remember to convert all measurements from inches to decimal

and of courseWild Turkey records kept by specie.

Yes a hen would score but I could not find it on NWTF - they have got to have a record of bearded hens somewhere.

the calculators that I have used in the past to score a turkey only have one slot for the beard. what if you have a gobbler with multiple beards? A couple years back, I shot a gobbler that weighed about 28 lbs and had one beard that was 6.5 inches and another beard that was 10.25 inches and the left spur was 1.625 and the right spur was 1.625. Best gobbler I ever shot and it was my first gobbler I ever shot! I would assume that you just add the lengths of both beards and then input that lenght as the beard length? Any thoughts...

You are correct it is like a typical and non-typical deer and the turkeys are in two different categories. BTW, that is an awesome bird you got! A true trophy of a lifetime!

For multiple bearded toms, add the beard lengths to get a total and input that as the beard length.
