I just drove home from Corning...About a mile westof Erwin Junction along the river flats on 417, there was a group of about a dozen turkeys by the river..Most looked BIG, so I would suspect they were mostly gobblers..Right in the middle of the group stood a tom in full display... I don't know if there was a hen present or if the gobblers are just getting some male dominance issues sorted out..
I've seen toms strut in February before, but I've never seen one displaying in the middle of January here in western NY...
When the weather is warm as it has been, Ive seen my 2 toms strut and want to fight. Just 2 days ago they were going nuts. Gobbling and using fighting purrs like crazy.

Damn, If I would have seen that, I know I wouldn't have gotten any sleep that night.
That is odd they are strutting in January already. I wonder if this will have an effect of the late seasons. I normally prefer the late seasons, but earlier might be better.

I heard a bunch of turkeys chatting it up while deer hunting a few weeks back. I've still got 2 weeks left for bow season here and I find myself visiting this forum more and more.... I can't wait for spring!
Pygmy,
That's awesome! I was out just the other day and noticed tons of turkey tracks through the snow. Can't wait till season! Might try hunting for turkeys with a bow...need lots of practice till then though. I hope this yearsweird weather won't affect them too much and we still have some active birds when season comes.Tight lines man!
