Turkey Hunting Whether it's spring or fall doesn't matter to this bunch. Great tips on calling, bustin flocks, using blinds and more.

Default 20 vs. 23 inch barrels

i was thinking about getting mossbergs new 835 tactical turkey gun which has a 20 inch barrel but remington just came out with a similiar gun(it's in there new 2007 spring catalog) and it has a 23 inch barrel. is there going to be much of a difference pattern wise between the two barrels.

I have an 835 and really dont think its the gun the 870 is.... The sps is lighter and kicks harder but all and all... its the better gun.
Reguardless of barrel length... if I were you I'd grab the Rem. It'll last in the long run.

Barrel length alone doesn't seem to have a great influence on patterns. Some short barreled guns pattern better than long barreled equivalents. A longer barrel will, however, give you a longer sighting plane if you don't use a scope, and you will get an increase in velocity, thus energy, out of a longer barrel.

Get what you want. A shorter barrel is nice. I have a 26" barrel on my Nova and I find that it is just a little too long and catches on brush and twigs. I feel that your pattern depends most on your choke tube not barrel length. I think that a long extended tubewill work better than the older flush mounted ones.

I went from 26 to 18 inch. Love it. Compact and with rigfht choke/load it is deadly out to 50 yds.
