Turkey Hunting Whether it's spring or fall doesn't matter to this bunch. Great tips on calling, bustin flocks, using blinds and more.

Default Turkeyhunting with chaps

I am absolutly a big chicken when it comes to snakes. I hate them all, and believe the only good snake is on a pair of boots. With that being said, I have decided I can't keep turkey hunting (which is not really an option) unless I get a pair of chaps or a snake proof boot. What is your recomendation and why? I like the idea of the 16" boots, however is it very likely for a snake to bite you above the knee? Just wondering and seeking some expert advise.

DK,

Here in South Ga., we have diamond backs, timber rattlers, cotton mouth and copperhead moccasins. I wear a pair of rocky snake boots. Rocky makes, I think, 3 versions of their snake boots. The pair I have has a sole like a nike type running shoe. It wears great and it's also waterproof, which is a necessity where I hunt, river swamp land. Several of my friends wear Lacrosse snake boots. To be honest, I don't know if mine will stop a snake bite, and I hope I don't have to find out. I really don't need them til it gets close to the end of our spring gobbler season because by then it has started warming up and the snakes move more.

If your worried about snakes on your walk in or while your sittin down?
I've never had a problem walkin in... I carry a big buck knife in an inside pocket though for when I'm sitting down....
While sitting down your pal Steve has had close encounters with: Skunks, possems, coons, bobcats, rutting bucks, and armadillos....
I've had to waste a couple mornings tryin to ward off animals but snakes?
No problem...
