Turkey Hunting Whether it's spring or fall doesn't matter to this bunch. Great tips on calling, bustin flocks, using blinds and more.

Default Kee-Kee run?

I have hunted turkeys for 18 years and taken many birds through the years.I read for the first time today that only jakes make the kee kee run call. Is this true? The article I read was in Outdoor Life and it said hens make the kee kee (kee kee without yelps)but only jakes make the kee kee run (kee kee followed by the 2-4 yelps). If this is true I can't believe I haven't heard of this before now.

i would believe it. i was calling to a hen and another turkey(either a jake or jenny) this past weekend just using my mouth. it turns out that it was a hen and a jenny and it wouldn't add yelps onto the kee kees. i don't have first had experience on the kee kee runs but this idea sounds plausible.

I dont believe that for a second as I've got some great footage on one of our hunts that a hen keekee runs several times not more than 15 yards from the camera...

I don't know about the differences in kee-kee runs between hens & jakes. I've heard a group of hens make kee-kee run yelp combinations during spring season.
