Turkey Hunting Whether it's spring or fall doesn't matter to this bunch. Great tips on calling, bustin flocks, using blinds and more.

Default Best youth turkey gun?

does anyone have any experience with the best youth-size turkey gun? my son is 9 and he'll be ready by this fall. i'd probably stick with a 20 gauge pump or single shot. appreciate any input. thanks

I have a remington 870 in a 20 guage that my kids have used with 3 inch shells and it doesn't seem to kick too bad. It is very tolerable for a younger kid and shouldn't make them gun shy. Also make sure you use a full or extra full choke.
Just my two cents.

My daughter has the same setup. With a primos tight wad choke and #6 rem hevishot it'll kill them out to 40+ yards. But we like them in closer than that. The best out there? I don't know. But so far it's been a very good gun for her.

my first gun was the rem 870 express youth. i got it five years ago. now im 17 and more than capable of using a 12 ga, but i actually still use my youth gun for turkey. with hevishot #6 and a pure gold choke tube, im deadly out to 40 yards easy, and its a whole lot nicer to carry around the woods than some big 12 ga. im very satisfied with it and would def recommend it. you may want to consider not having you son shoot the 3'' turkey loads until hes in the woods cuz they really kick. my dad had me practice with trap loads and then we put in the turkey loads only when we we're actually hunting. when a tom steps out in front of him, he wont feel a thing.
