I bagged my fifth and final gobbler for 2006. A dandy bird from the midwest. The story is kind of interesting. On the first day at a friends farm we strike a bird upon arrival at 1000am. Get setup and the gobbler comes in but do to the terrain we couldnt get a shot. The next day we're on him again at 830am. suddenly he stops gobbling and is no where to be found. SUDDENLY WE SEE A PREDATOR (ROAD RUNNERS NEMESIS) SNEAKING THRU THE WOODS. He spooked our birds. A 43yd shot to the head with 3 1/2 win Xtend range and he drops like a rock, not even a flinch. He wasnt going to eat any more of our turkeys.
We then circle the farm looking for more birds to no avail. At 1130am we're back at the previous location of the two close calls .2 Gobblers answer at 1210pm and by 1230 they come in gobbling like crazy. EASY 15 YD SHOTS AND WE BAG A DOUBLE!! Only 70 yards from where the predator lay dead!!
My question is even though we saved the turks from the predator, they still ended up dead. Did we help the population any????

My bird on left: 20lbs, 11 1/4" beard, 1 1/8" spurs
Friends bird on right: 20 lbs, 10 1/4" beard, 1" spurs
