Default How to set up?

My season starts in less than a week and I will be calling for a friend of mine starting on sunday, and I have recently got permission to hunt a farm near the area that I was hunting earlier with my dad. I haven't had time to thuroughly scout the area but there is only a small patch of trees and the rest of the land is all open fields. I have seen a few longbeards out in these fields later in the day and the farmer has told me that he's seen lots of birds in them as well. My problem is that I know that the birds have been roosting in the only trees onthe farm and I was wondering how I should go about setting up for them? The patch of trees is not very large and I am not 100% sure where exactly in the trees the birds are roosting... do I set up on the edge of the trees hunting the field and risk spooking the birds out of their roosts or how should I set up on them?

The area looks something like this...

Slough

Default RE: How to set up?

first thing i would do...is get into those woods when the birds are buggin in the field...(come in from the backside of the trees so the turkeys dont see you)...and look for their roost area...preening feathers on the groundand droppings will tell you your very close...then set up within a hundred or so yards since your not sure which way they fly down..
If you cant, try the slough edge for your set up (bring your dekes and place them in the field assuming you have brush you can hide yourself along that slough)..as close as maybe sixty yards to the treeline...that's a good start...good luck

I would attempt to roost them the night before the hunt and go from there... Then you will know where you can set up and where you cant. Ive set against a sapling with a small blind in front of me before and harvested a nice long beard...
