Turkey Hunting Whether it's spring or fall doesn't matter to this bunch. Great tips on calling, bustin flocks, using blinds and more.

Default NY and PA season updates and some quick vids........

So I am building video footage of my spring turkey season trips........hopefully I will be able to get some closeup action on camera as well so I can edit all of it and build a real video of some bow and gun kills.

My hunting stops for this season include my property in Bradford County, PA and my buddies property near Oneonta, NY. Both pieces of property hold some good birds, I have gotten a couple thousand pictures on my leaf river in the last 6 months of the birds on my property so I know they are there. There are at least 12 different gobblers on that ridge that I know of and have pictures of. They seem to have spread out a bit on the ridge, but most are still there. Opening day in PA was a very quiet day except for the ridiculous amount of locator calls from the neighbors. They didn't really hunt last season, maybe word of my success last year got them started. [:@] Anyhow, I had one bird put to sleep just on my side of the neighbors property line......but just about time for flydown on opening morning the neighbor walked down the property line to where the bird was silently treed. I never saw or heard the bird and am pretty sure the neighbor bumped him somewhere other than in my direction. Dad and I picked up the blind around 6:45 and headed to the field where they had spotted a good tom almost every other day strutting around 9am. We got settled in and were there long enough for the morning sun to heat the blind and make our eyes heavy when I peeked out the window and saw a bird about 150 yards out and closing. Unfortunately I was so wrapped up in whether I should shoot or pass the bird, I never got footage........ It was a jake that was curious about our decoy spread. We passed on it as that wasn't what I was looking for on opening day.

After our hunt in Saturday, I headed up to Oneonta, NY to Dan's cabin (jaws) and to do a bit of work on the foodplots on Sunday and to get ready for NY's opener on Monday morning. Dan and his dad already did the majority of the work when I got there but here is some video of the plot.........this is about an acre of chicory and brassica I believe when it comes up. It is disced up, limed, seeded, and cultipacked. It should be a good spot next season. I arrowed a trophy sized tree back in Oct just off the back of this food plot, Dans dad was even so kind as to return a piece of the fletched end of the arrow.........[:-]

Opening morning finally came in NY and Dan and I were able to pick up on a pair of roosted birds just before first light. We were hoping they would fly down to us off the sidehill into the field at the bottom as they were only roosted about 150 yards away so we set up a spread and the blind and sat till around 8. The birds responded to us about 15-20 times each, but each time after they hit the ground was further and further away. I am pretty sure they were henned up. Anyhow here is some footage from that set. The first one I almost caught him snoring on camera before he realized what was going on...........lol.

After the time in that set, I was fairly confident those birds were gone so we packed up and headed up the stream to the north end of their property. A few miles it seemed later packing the blind and decoys, etc we finally got to the cabin without finding an active bird so we headed back to the same spot we started in and setup again and sat till 11:30 or so.

I think the birds are a bit henned up now......hopefully this upcoming weekend we can see some more action when I return to Oneonta. Hope you enjoy the video, I have lots more and I really hope later this season one of us can let the air out of one on camera so I can edit all this and turn it into a video.
