Turkey Hunting Whether it's spring or fall doesn't matter to this bunch. Great tips on calling, bustin flocks, using blinds and more.

Default Turkey Drumming

Last Saturday I heard something that I have never heard before. I had a turkey coming to me he was about 125 yards out moving around the valley to come up the hill. I did not relize it at the time but we swore someone was nailing something to a fence post. It was about 6 or 7 loud smacks. He did it the whole way in. I have never heard a turkey do this this loud and yes I do know what a grouse sounds like. We even went looking for who was up there nailing something. Anyone else heard one this loud?

I guess I'm not sure what kind of sound the bird was making from your post. Explain.

it sounded I guess like two pieces of wood being smacked together. It started after his first gobble and continued all the way. When he got to our location he was above us and we watched him stick his head over look around then he left going back the exact same way gobbling and making that other noise till he ended up back where he started.

Ive heard toms spit and drum and the farthest Ive heard it was this year and he was around 50 yards away. I even have turkeys as pets and Ive never heard a sound like that come from them. I have no clue at what it could have been.

I heard that kinda sound yesterday.
Its wed 5 - 3 - 06 today.
I heard a tom spitting and drumming and
I heard what I thought was a wood pecker.
But now that I think about it did sound like some one,
Nailing something to a tree.
Could it be him kicking his spurs together ?
I have no idea.

Maybe some of the old time turkey hunters could
Anwser this.

I would like to know this to.
